Enterprise German
Classroom implementations
This project is based on the "Enterprise German" initiative, developed by the Goethe Institute, which connects German language learning with the world of business. Aimed at secondary school and university students, it was launched in the UK in 2023 after successful implementations in Australia, Ireland, and Italy. The project explores integrating the initiative's materials into German language modules, either as part of Business German courses or general language studies. By engaging students in real-world tasks like product design and marketing, the project aims to enhance motivation and develop transferable skills such as creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork, whilst providing opportunities for authentic language assessment.
“What’s in a name”
Collaboration
This project brings together students from various UK universities, such as Durham University and Swansea University, to collaborate on a task simulating a marketing agency's operation. In this simulation, students from one university act as the client, while those from another university serve as the marketing agency. The client provides a new product, and the marketing agency must create a product name and slogan based on the client's requirements.
The project's learning goals are to foster collaborative learning between students at different universities, develop essential behaviours and transferable skills for successful careers, and prepare students for future work environments.
Interview Ready: Mastering Job Interviews for Language Students
A project idea to link modules in an Institution-Wide Language (IWLP) setting
The module linking project at Durham University provides students with the opportunity to develop the skills required for a successful job interview and to practise these skills in a simulated interview setting. Students at levels B1 and B2 will engage in collaborative learning in heterogeneous groups, thereby capitalising on the diverse linguistic abilities of their group members. The project will include practical exercises such as preparing a curriculum vitae and answering and drafting interview questions. It will also address the interlinking and progressive nature of the language modules offered by the Centre for Foreign Language Study. Participation in the project is designed to facilitate individual learning and the advancement of language skills, while encouraging students to pursue further studies in German.
